Three RIvers, Part 3 - Lake Kaweah

Each summer, CSS takes the students out on boats in Lake Kaweah, a man-made lake that is drained every winter for campgrounds as well as farming.  This past winter, there was so little snowfall in the mountains that the level of the lake was extremely low.

This year we had three of these 'boats'

One of the host families took the students tubing with their motorboat

On the boat

The water was COLD (but refreshing)!!!

[you can see how much lower the water level was than last year (top of green), and last year's level wasn't so high either...]

Three Rivers, Part 2

Tea anyone?
We bought Z a tea set to take to Three Rivers, not knowing if she would like it or not, but she loves it! Chuck had many tea parties with her and was fed many delectable treats and drinks.

 "I'm bored..."

Three Rivers, Part 1

The next several posts are from Three Rivers.  We were up in the Central Valley from June 16-30.  Like last summer, Chuck took time off to play Mr. Mom while Jennie was coaching and performing at Center Stage Strings.

We were staying in the guest cabin of our host family, and they had two beautiful dogs for Zooey to be friends with.
Here's a video with the older of the dogs - Z always wanted to get closer,
but not too close!

Randomness

For Zooey's first birthday, Jennie's Aunt Insuk gave her this travel cot.  Zooey loves it and we took it with us to Three Rivers for her to sleep on - she only fell off maybe 3-4 times :) Thank you emo!

Hard at work

We feel like we already have a teenager in our house - Zooey's mood can change instantly, with no obvious (at least to us) explanation...

Exhibit A: a sweet content little girl

Exhibit B: sudden outrage

Exhibit C:"why don't you people understand???"

I can't remember what she was staring at
but whatever it was, she wanted "more"

She loves meat, she loves meat!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I love meat.  I don't even try to be a vegetarian - if I go more than a few days without eating meat, my mouth starts to feel funny.  Chuck often comments on how clean the kalbi bones are after I'm done with them.

So, it is with great pride I introduce the next generation of carnivore:

I gave her the bone as a joke, not thinking she'd do anything more than
play with it a bit...

She proceeded to gnaw away for the next 10 minutes, objecting loudly whenever I tried to take it away
She is definitely MY daughter :D :D :D

picnic

During a bike ride around the Claremont Colleges, we decided to take a break and have a mini picnic on the campus

Happy Zooey, Naughty Zooey

Happy Zooey

(she had a nosebleed after tripping on the stairs outside)

Naughty Zooey
I saw her looking at the water on the table and told her, "no, not for Zooey"

What does she do?  Reach for the glass...

After I took the glass away....poor Zooey, life is so unfair!
